Brenda holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Science in Professional School Counseling from Buena Vista University. She has also earned a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. Brenda has been in the mental health field since 2020 and became a temporary Licensed Mental Health Counselor in 2025.
Brenda brings a strong background in mental health and trauma-informed care, with experience in both community and school settings—including group facilitation through the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program (IDAP), work with Probation & Parole, and five years as a school counselor for grades 6–12. Her warm, grounded style is shaped by both professional training and the insight that comes from lived experience. Taking a holistic approach that honors mind, body, and spirit, Brenda primarily uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and thoughtfully integrates other evidence-based methods such as somatic therapy, CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and person-centered techniques. Spiritually integrated counseling is also available for those who request it.
Brenda offers virtual counseling for individuals ages 16 and older as well as couples and parent-child sessions. She specializes in grief and trauma, providing a safe, supportive space for clients navigating loss, emotional pain, life transitions, and relational challenges. Brenda supports clients with concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, domestic violence, and behavioral challenges in adolescents. Her goal is to help clients reconnect with what matters most to them and take meaningful steps toward healing, growth, and a more values-aligned life.
Brenda began as an intern at RISE in August 2024 and as a therapist in September 2025.
